Carbon Fiber vs Carbon Fibre

You might hear of cyclists eating the road when they are out on a long ride or trail - but do they eat their bike too?

It is a common mis-spelling to write Carbon Fiber as Carbon Fibre. In fact, both of the words sound exactly the same, but mean exactly the same thing.

To me, Fiber is the stuff my bike is made from and Fibre is the stuff I (try) to eat for breakfast.

Fibre is, according to many a dictionary can be described as follows:

Noun
1. a natural or synthetic thread that may be spun into yarn
2. a threadlike animal or plant tissue
3. a fibrous substance that helps the body digest food
4. strength of character
5. essential substance or nature

These meanings are correct in Great Britain, but in the US and possibly the rest of the english speaking world, the spelling fiber is used.

So it does actually mean the same thing!

When you next speak about losing weight, getting a balanced diet or packing enough good foods including a healthy fibre (or fiber) based breakfast, remember that the bike you are using for your next triathlon is not made from the same stuff you are eating - it just sounds the same!
